Started by a small group of enthusiasts in 1985, the Plymouth Watercolour Society soon grew and developed into a thriving group of painters of all skill levels who are keen to promote watercolour painting.
Although the Society does not have a ‘home’ of its own, it organises a varied programme of events. During the spring, autumn and winter the programme consist mainly of monthly workshops and demonstrations by visiting artists. In recent times there have been meetings on Saturday mornings, during the summer, with members of some other local clubs.
The Society usually holds at least one exhibition each year. Currently, work is going on to try and have a virtual winter exhibition.
The Society is at present going through a ‘renaissance’, which includes a new website and a relaxation of the ‘pure watercolour’ requirement, to allow pen and wash, acrylics, gouache and mixed media paintings. We are very keen to attract new members. If you are an experienced painter or a beginner or somewhere between, we will welcome you and offer any support that you need.
The best way to join the Society is to come along to one of our monthly meetings, (when they start again!), and there are reduced fees for your first workshop, and for your first year of being a member.
